TOPIC: Hello

Hello 1 Year, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Cody. I currently weigh 390 pounds (down from 456). My goal weight is 250.

I'm still in the middle of reading all of the Adonis material, but I like what I've read so far.

One question, is there a place for fasting in Adonis?

Nope... however... you've got the KING of intermittent fasting, Brad Pilon, on board to answer all of your fasting questions...

... with some interesting research on "Dieter's Edema (sp)" (water being shuttled into fat cells) to boot...

The "Nutrition" Section of the forum should be live in the next day or so... so ask away.

Oh, and congrats on your progress

Nothings says "accelerate fat loss" like combining fasting with Adonis training!

Let me know your questions and I will answer them the best I can

Thanks for the replies, guys!

I've actually been mixing in IF fairly regularly with my diet and exercise.

I want to hear much more about the dieters edema! Help me to flush the water out of those fat cells Brad! I first read about this over on Lyle McDonald's site. It seems like a large number of carbs after weeks of dieting helps to do this, but I don't want to go that route!

Over the years, I've been following HST, but the main reason I am lifting is for vanity (i.e. I want to get laid more), so Adonis makes much more sense to me. Lift to meet your specific goals, right?

Right now, I do IF on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and basically Low Carb the rest of the week. I'm losing between 3 and 5 pounds per week doing this.

I know that muscle loss is not a big concern for two reasons:

1. Muscle loss is more of a problem from lack of use (i.e. atrophy)
2. Muscle memory, any muscle I lose, I can add back on later with slight calorie increase (say a couple hundred calories on non-fasting days, i.e. Low Carb Bulk).

I know that for normal guys (people not so fat as me), an LC diet is probably not neccesary, but I'm sure neither one of you will be surprised to find out that I was borderline Type II diabetic at my former weight. For me, I'm not going to start adding a significant amount of carbs back into my diet, until I am under 300 pounds.

My question revolves around taking Amino Acids and fish oil on the days I fast. The calories are so small that I feel technically I'm still fasting (less than 100 cals). I guess I'm taking the Aminos out of concern that I will lose more muscle on fasting days without taking aminos. Do you think taking aminos is doing anything as far as preventing muscle breakdown for energy on fasting days?

Also, I just listened to the sweet spot of fat burning interview, and while there were technical issues that I know you guys are going to get worked out, the content was right on and fits with what I've found to work for fat burning, and namely, that is diet, diet, diet! Forget about cardio, just focus on diet and hitting the weights and the fat will melt off.

Good work so far on everything and I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with next!

Also, after looking at the Burn program, can you guys help me translate this into workouts I can do with my Bowflex Selectech Dumbells? That is the equipment I have and the only way I can be successful at this is if I can work out from home. I hate gyms with a passion.

Also, how about a boiled down synopsis of the burn approach? Your approach is very similar to HST, but you guys seem to really focus on passing the lactic threshold (is this the correct term) for the metabolism boosting portion.

My W/H ratio is .8118 and my AI is .99 by the way. I've got my work cut out for me.

Interesting to hear the Lyle McDonald has touched on Dieters Edema...I really didn't think anyone else had put two and two together (not being pompous, I just haven't seen anything)

I wouldn't waste your time with the aminos...(They are a bad combination of 'makes no difference' and 'making other people rich'!)
